Wednesday evening training for juniors is back from the 16th August. This operates as a 10 week block of training that the kids sign up to. Sign up opens THIS WEDNESDAY 2nd AUGUST at 7pm!! Be fast as its often a sell out in minutes!!!!

It’s different to Sunday’s as we have limited facilities / coaching so need the kids to commit to attend the block of training and are limited to certain abilities (see below). It’s also one of the best ways for kids to develop and many of the attending kids have made HUGE progress including making national teams and squads over the past few years. But like all fusion training it’s fun, skills based, good for fitness and all about learning as the priority:

Fusion Triathlon Club are delighted to announce the next block of Junior session on Wednesday nights at Bellahouston Leisure Centre. The session will be run as a block with upfront payment being required to secure your child’s place. The cost for 10 sessions is £75.00 and will run on wednesday’s between 16th August and 18th October

Due to limited pool access at Bellahouston there will only be 2 lanes available, we need to limit the group to 16 kids in the pool. 2 coaches will run the session from 4.45 to 5.55 outside on the track and park roads followed by swimming 6-7pm. Outdoor sessions will be a mix of cycling, running and conditioning.

What age and ability do I need to be?

Children between the age of 8 and 16 of suitable ability are welcome to our wednesday junior sessions training. We then look at the group of children that sign up and split them into lanes for the hour in the pool so that the kids are working alongside people with a similar ability.

OUR MINIMUM REQUIREMENT FOR ATTENDANCE IS THAT THE CHILD CAN SWIM 100m FRONT CRAWL WITH THEIR FACE IN THE WATER In ~ 2 mins.   CHILDREN TAKING PART MUST ALSO BE ABLE TO RUN 15 MINS WITHOUT STOPPING AND BE COMPETENT ON A BIKE – USE GEARS PROPERLY, BE AWARE OF OTHERS WHEN RIDING IN PROXIMITY TO OTHERS ETC.   Sunday Junior session attenders must be a group 2 athlete outdoors and a lane 3 or above swimmer to attend.

This wednesday night training block is progressive with workload and skills advancing week on week so it’s ideal for those committed kids trying to progress their abilities building towards improved aquathlon and triathlon race performances.

KIDS SIGNING UP TO THIS PROGRAMME ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND AT LEAST 8 OF THE 10 SESSIONS.  PLACES ARE IN V HIGH DEMAND AND WITH PROGRESSIVE ACTIVITIES WEEK ON WEEK WE REQUIRE THIS BASIC COMMITMMENT.

Kids who do not fulfill this criteria may be excluded from future bookings.

What kit do I need to bring?

Cycling (only spring – autumn sessions as determined by the coaches): Working bike, helmet mandatory, warm and waterproof trousers and jacket, base layer to keep warm, like a thermal. We don’t recommend baggy joggy bottoms as they don’t keep kids very warm and when they get wet, they are heavy and uncomfortable, so leggings of some sort are better. Gloves and a hat to wear under the helmet, kids get extremely cold especially in typical Scottish weather.  Cycling shoes or trainers  – We will cease to ride during this block when daylight and weather means it is too dark / cold to ride (probably early October)

Swimming: Swimsuit, goggles, swim cap; kickboard, pull buoy and fins, shampoo etc. and a towel.

Running: Running shoes, the above clothing is required but if warmer then a t-shirt might be appropriate.

Food: Please always come with a filled water bottle and some snacks to keep you going and to take in the short break between sessions.
