Welcome to Fusion Triathon’s lockdown newsletter !  We’ve all been busy adjusting to the variety of changes over the past few months – the Fusion Triathlon Committee hopes everyone involved in our wonderful sport are taking care of themselves as best they can – and if you’re struggling, ask for help.

We have a few things to speak to you around, what our membership have been up to training wise over the last few months (mostly circumnavigating the world), some changes to the club committee and set up and an invite to a virtual event to get everyone’s competitive oranges flowing !

Fusion Triathlon club has set off on a club challenge this month / June – see how far we can get adding up all of our weekly member training distances.  It’s key for us as a club during this challenging period to realise we are all still out there pushing away and getting our daily dollop of well being and fresh air and we hope you are too.

And if we are honest we’ve gone further in the first 2 weeks than we expected !! 15,529.34 km.  We made it to AUSTRALIA all the way from Glasgow  !!!

But… it’s not over.  We’ve got till the end of June to add up those miles so if you’re contributing your millage keep at it, if you haven’t so far sent it in please pass your details to Joanne Byrne via facebook.

We don’t wish to be left watching Crocodile Dundee for eternity !  Let’s get right around the world !

It looks like we may be over the worst of the first wave of the virus and can expect some restrictions to be lifted over the coming month / 6 weeks.  As part of planning how we relaunch club activities when the time is right as advised by Tri Scotland / Government the committee has been discussing initially membership.

If you recall since the clubs inception we have always worked around an end of Feb renewal for the year.  The first decision the committee has made to get us on the path back to group sweaty fun is the move the renewal / membership date from Feb to the 1st of Oct – inline with the yearly training plan.  This year we had quite a few people renew prior to the lockdown and some who have yet to complete renewal hence we have discussed and agreed the following.
  1. For those who renewed Feb there, your membership will run through to Oct 2021.
  2. For those who didn’t get round to renewing yet can we ask you to do so now. Sign up here (it still says Feb 2021 but don’t worry about that)
  3. Couch2tri people you’re sign up to Oct 2021 already so don’t you worry. We are working through options to get you back up and running alongside the club too of course
  4. We are still very much focused on working to the feedback received from Anne Marie‘s survey and the club development plan but first lets get back up on our feet.
We shall be looking to update the facebook membership group with the current membership list, prior to kicking off further planning work alongside TS / BT advice and guidance. As ever the committee & club can’t wait to see everyone who trains with us or with sister clubs / groups around us in sunny Glasgow get back on track, back smiling and back to some level of normality.

Now we have adjusted the Club year from Feb to October this means the next AGM will be in Sept !!

Accordingly we have a few slots available on the committee to be decided in Sept.  Much thanks go to Ken MacEwan and David McGinness for their contribution to the club.  Positions available are…

  • Treasurer – think banker with a sense of humour (well…) who corrals the committee with graphs / charts and says no to the chairman.  Like the sound of being that person !?
  • Coach / facilities coordinator – think the person at the top of the coaching tree who ensures all our monthly session rota’s are full with smiley level 1/2/3 triathlete coaches, builds a relationship with Glasgow Club and acts as a point of contact for any facilities discussions.

The committee meets on a monthly basis for an hour or so over a coffee / donut and we spread love and banter around via our messenger group daily.

If you’re interested and wish to know more about the role then please do get in touch with our chairman Susan Lynch via facebook / chairman@fusiontriathlonclub.co.uk

It’s clearly not been the most important thing this summer but we have seen all of the seasons races, or at least the early ones, cancelled.

Racing provides an outlet for many of us – be it the thrill of just getting the starting line and finishing, getting a PB or even going for a podium.  Like the wider Triathlete community we have a unique competitive set up whereby we all line up together in the same race, from first timers to professionals and many of us are missing our racing adreneline shot.

We at Fusion towers have come up with a cunning plan.  Why not have virtual race weekend.  Sat 4th / Sun 5th July we’ll be holding our first virtual event.

The race will consist of running and cycling, you can do both together or apart and we have multiple distances you can enter.   All we ask is you do it in a socially distant manner alongside the current government / TS advice, and of course give it your all !  Keep an eye out on our social media / club members email for further details !
