Welcome to Fusions’s January update.  We hope you’ve recovered from the longest month of the year and are looking forward to spring appearing over the snowy horizon !  This month we’ve got our Fusion awards to sign up to, an update on the club development work we are looking at and the start of our Couch2tri programme to update you on !!

It’s award season !! if you missed it a few days ago Fusion is having it’s yearly award evening in a few weeks.  This time we are putting Juniors / Seniors together and creating a smorgasbord of awesomeness so peek at the below and get your ticket reserved for an evening of celebrating with the Fusion Family

A key discussion point at last years AGM was the need for a Fusion club development strategy that would plot out where we wish the club to be in 5 years and set up some key objectives to get us there.

We initially set up a club development sub committee that included a few people interested in working on this from the AGM and some other members, the aim of which to come together work out what we needed to focus on and set right about it.  At the same time we sent out a survey to all members asking some straight forward questions around what we do well, not so well and what could we change.  We received around 30 responses which each and every one reviewed by the development sub committee in our first meeting.  We’d like to thank everyone for taking the time to complete these as it gave us a good set of ideas / starting point from our members as to what we should be focusing on.

We then met a second time (with better coffee) with the aim of working out a clear and concise mission statement for the club we can angle all the development work around.  To do this we started discussing what we thought the clubs beliefs and values were, what we thought the goals and aims of the club should be.  Sounds easy doesn’t it ?  Well it’s not ! We spent over three hours really getting to the nub of what we want the club to be and proposing a mission statement for the club, and a set of objectives to get us there.  Next steps are for the sub committee to write up the output and present back to the committee for approval & implementation and wider circulation to our membership.

A real but of focus this month by parts of the committee and our coaching structure has been setting up the Couch2tri programme.

The aim of the programme is to reduce the entry barriers for triathlon for those interested and refute some of the myths associated with the sport – primarily based around a 3 month programme split into three blocks that completed with a Gotri event Fusion is running in Bellahouston in June.

Fusion announced the programme mid January via the website, social media and on Glasgow Live.  We received an unexpectedly high response level with around 400 people getting in contact for more information – who knew there were so many aspiring triathletes in Glasgow ?!  This level of response really motivated everyone involved and before long we had scheduled 2 information sessions at Bellehouston Park and Scotstoun Stadium with around 90 people in total attending.

The programme started w/c 10th Feb with around 65 people signed up to not only the programme but the club and we will be charting their journey over social media / website alongside Triathlon Scotland media team over the coming months.  So if someone tells you they are on the Couch2tri programme at Fusion give them some encouragement and introduce them to the Fusion Family !

Easter is coming up fast – Fusion has released it’s yearly Juniors Camp for anyone interested.  It’s not just for members – anyone can come along.  We have two 4 day camps running from the Monday to the Thursday based at Bellahouston Leisure Centre and Park.

In a fabulous article on a vegan based diet from club member Natalie talks us through what it means to her and goes through some important FAQs

A few wee reminders for everyone

  • The Tuesday run session based out of Botanics has moved to Scotstoun as a base location – same time / same run plan just a location move.
  • Glasgow Club have announced a major refurbishment of Scotstoun Pool lasting around 9 months.  We are working with Glasgow Club to arrange cover sessions in other facililiates through this period and we’ll let you all know as and when we have agreed the plan !!
  • It’s almost time to renew your membership – watch out for the call to sign up again for another year of swimming, biking and running !!
