Fusion Triathlon Club organises two events every year:  the National (Scottish) Youth Triathlon Championships, and Balfron Aquathlon.

Although these happen to be junior events, they are first and foremost just Fusion events.  And they are organised not by Fusion Triathlon “junior section”, but by Fusion Triathlon Club.

They benefit the club in several ways:

  • They raise the profile of the club. None of the banners, tents, flags mention the junior section, they simply mention “Fusion Triathlon Club”.  They give credibility to the club as a whole.
  • They are profitable. The money the club makes from these events goes into the Fusion Triathlon Club account.  These profits serve the club as a whole, not just the junior section.

The club does not currently organise any senior events.  Given that the National Youth Triathlon Championships, and Balfron Aquathlon, are the only two regular Fusion-organised events in the yearly calendar, we encourage all members of Fusion to use these as an opportunity to make a positive contribution (aside from training and racing!) by volunteering a handful of hours each year at one or both of those events.

There may be a misconception that volunteering in these events should be for junior parents only.  Whilst junior parents generally form the majority of the volunteering workforce, this is usually insufficient in terms of numbers, and there tend to be very few volunteers from the senior section.  These events raise the profile and credibility of the club, and benefit the club financially.  The age groups involved in the racing are incidental from that perspective, particularly when Fusion does not organise any senior events at present.  The committee would therefore love to see a more even spread of volunteers at these events.

And guess what?  Our Balfron Aquathlon queen Joanne Byrne is looking for volunteers for Balfron Aquathlon (Saturday 14th September).  Joanne puts tons of hours into this every year, and we would all be very grateful if you would please consider supporting your club by offering a few hours of your time that day.  No experience required, it’s all good fun, a bit of banter, and quite sociable.  Did I mention cake?  It would also really help bring the two parts of the club together a bit more.  We always seem to be short of volunteers in the lead up to each of these two events every year.  Given the number of members we have in the club overall we really should be having too many volunteers, not too few.  So please come along and grab a yellow vest to support your club!
